Bybit Removed from France’s AMF Blacklist as It Pursues MiCA License for EU Expansion

Bybit, one of the leading cryptocurrency exchanges, has been removed from France’s Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF) blacklist, according to a statement from the company. The exchange had been on the list since May 2022 due to allegations of noncompliance with local regulations. As of now, Bybit no longer appears on AMF’s list of unauthorized entities, signaling a significant step toward resolving its regulatory issues in France.

The AMF had issued a public warning in May 2024, categorizing Bybit as a blacklisted company. However, the release now carries a disclaimer indicating that the information is outdated, suggesting that the exchange’s compliance efforts have paid off. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou confirmed on February 14 that the company has been in active discussions with French regulators for over two years and is in the process of applying for a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license to ensure full compliance with European Union laws.

Despite this progress in France, Bybit still faces challenges in other regions. In Malaysia, the country’s securities regulator instructed the platform to cease operations, and in India, increasing regulatory pressure led to a suspension of its services. These developments highlight the complex and evolving regulatory landscape that cryptocurrency exchanges must navigate as they expand globally.

The MiCA framework, which aims to regulate digital assets across the EU, has become a key focus for crypto exchanges like Bybit and Bitget. Both platforms are actively pursuing MiCA licenses to strengthen their presence in Europe. Bitget, which recently received approval to offer crypto services in Bulgaria, Poland, and Lithuania, expects its MiCA application to be approved by 2025. Additionally, exchanges such as OKX and Crypto.com have already obtained full licenses under the MiCA framework, underscoring the growing acceptance of regulated crypto services across Europe.

As Bybit continues to navigate global regulatory challenges, its removal from the AMF blacklist marks a crucial milestone in its efforts to expand its footprint in the EU market.
