eBay announced on Monday that it is acquiring Tise, a Norway-based social marketplace specializing in second-hand fashion and interior design items. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition signals eBay’s push to modernize its platform and capture younger audiences.
Founded in 2014, Tise has built a loyal Gen Z and millennial community by allowing users to follow sellers, like and comment on listings, and receive personalized product recommendations. The platform’s focus on on-trend inventory and social-first features aligns with eBay’s strategy to enhance its consumer-to-consumer (C2C) experience.
Strengthening Social Commerce on eBay
Tise was the first company to receive investment from eBay Ventures in 2022, and the acquisition represents a natural evolution of that partnership. “This acquisition will allow us to accelerate Tise’s strategy and unlock new opportunities for innovation,” said Oliver Klinck, VP, GM Global Markets Success & C2C at eBay. Sustainability is at the heart of the acquisition. Tise CEO Eirik Frøyland Rime highlighted that resale can be “fun, easy, and inspiring” while contributing to a more sustainable world. By joining forces with eBay, Tise plans to expand its community-driven model and encourage even more users to participate in eco-conscious shopping.
