Google Earth Adds Historical Street View & AI Planet Insights for 20th Anniversary

Google Earth is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a major update, adding historical Street View imagery and AI-powered planetary insights to the platform. Previously, users could only access historical Street View via Google Maps, but now, Google Earth enthusiasts can explore past views directly from both bird’s eye and street-level perspectives.

Historical Street View Now on Google Earth

The addition of historical Street View imagery allows users to virtually “time travel” within Google Earth. This enhancement builds on a popular social media trend from last year, where users revisited old images on Google Maps to see how places or loved ones had changed over time. Now, this experience is even more accessible and immersive through Google Earth.

AI-Driven Urban Insights for U.S. Cities

In tandem with this launch, Google also introduced new AI-driven planetary insights for professional users in the U.S. For example, users can now analyze tree canopy coverage and land surface temperatures in cities like Austin, Texas. These insights help urban planners identify areas that could benefit from additional greenery or cooling solutions—key data for addressing urban heat islands and improving quality of life.
