Google Gemini AI App Set for Scrollable, Image-Rich Redesign to Rival ChatGPT

  • Gemini AI may replace its minimalist chatbot with a scrollable feed of prompts and images.
  • Google aims to enhance engagement and inspire creative AI use.
  • The update could help Gemini compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

After the success of OpenAI’s Sora video editing app, which recently topped the U.S. App Store, Google appears ready to rethink the user experience of its Gemini AI app. The tech giant is reportedly experimenting with a more visually focused interface, moving away from the traditional chatbot look toward a scrollable feed filled with suggested prompts and eye-catching images.

New Interface Hints at Scrollable Feed and Image Prompts

According to Android Authority, reverse engineers discovered code in a recent Gemini Android app update showing a redesigned home screen. Key actions like “Create Image” or “Deep Research” are now positioned at the top, followed by a scrollable feed. This feed highlights suggested prompts such as “Teleport me to deep space,” “Give me a vintage look,” or “Turn my drawing into a storybook,” accompanied by colorful visuals.

Google confirmed no official rollout has occurred yet, leaving the experiment under wraps. Still, the proposed layout could make the app far more engaging, giving users ready-made inspiration for interacting with Gemini’s AI rather than leaving them to figure it out independently.

Competing With OpenAI’s Minimalist Approach

The redesign also signals Google’s intent to compete more directly with OpenAI. While ChatGPT’s app is functional, its interface is minimal and largely blank at launch. Gemini’s potential revamp could attract users with its visually stimulating prompts, capitalizing on interest in Google’s newer AI image model, Nano Banana. The model contributed to Gemini climbing the App Store charts, reaching No. 1 in mid-September before being overtaken by Sora.

A More Engaging AI Experience

If implemented, the update could make Gemini more intuitive and enjoyable, encouraging creative exploration and daily interaction. By combining practical AI tools with a visually rich interface, Google may enhance user engagement and strengthen its competitive position in the rapidly evolving AI app market.
