London Stock Exchange Launches Blockchain Platform to Tokenize Private Funds

  • LSEG is the first major exchange to launch a blockchain platform for private funds.
  • The DMI system integrates traditional markets with tokenized assets.
  • Microsoft Azure powers the platform, highlighting a strategic partnership.

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) has launched a blockchain-based platform for private funds, becoming the first major global stock exchange to deploy such infrastructure. Called Digital Markets Infrastructure (DMI), the system promises to reshape how private assets are issued, traded, and settled.

First Asset Class Goes Live on DMI

Private funds are the first to operate on the DMI platform, with more asset classes planned. The system enables the full lifecycle of digital assets—from issuance and tokenization to post-trade settlement—while maintaining interoperability with traditional financial systems.

Through integration with LSEG’s Workspace platform, private funds listed on DMI will be visible to professional investors, allowing general partners to connect with new sources of capital. Early participants include capital management firm MembersCap and regulated crypto exchange Archax. MembersCap executed the platform’s first transaction with Archax acting as a nominee for the Cardano Foundation.

Powered by Microsoft Azure and Strategic Partnership

The DMI was developed in collaboration with Microsoft and runs on its Azure cloud infrastructure. Microsoft executive Bill Borden described the initiative as a “powerful example of the innovation driving our strategic partnership,” adding that it will help clients “unlock new opportunities and drive meaningful change” in global finance.

LSEG’s head of digital markets infrastructure, Darko Hajdukovic, emphasized that private markets are “ripe for innovation” and said the goal is to deliver an “end-to-end, interoperable, regulated financial markets DLT infrastructure” to improve investor access and liquidity.

Bridging Traditional Finance and DeFi

Industry observers say LSEG’s move could accelerate convergence between traditional finance and decentralized finance (DeFi). JPMorgan’s Nelli Zaltsman noted that blockchain-based incentives from major institutions may drive this shift faster than expected.
