In a digital world dominated by highly curated photo feeds, a new Indian app, PicSee, is redefining personal photo sharing. Launched Thursday on both iOS and Android, PicSee automatically detects and shares photos of friends from your camera roll—without requiring messaging apps like WhatsApp or Instagram.
Automatic Photo Sharing with a Personal Touch
PicSee uses on-device facial recognition to scan your gallery and identify friends. Once a friend accepts a sharing request, the app sends them a batch of photos and continues to prompt you whenever new photos appear. If you don’t act within 24 hours, PicSee automatically sends the photos—though you can review or even recall them. All data is stored locally, with encrypted connections for transfers, ensuring privacy while keeping your photos off the cloud.
“Your friends probably have hundreds of photos of you that you don’t have,” said Mayank Bidawatka, PicSee co-founder. “Either they forgot to send them, or they themselves forgot about them. This app solves that gap.”
Privacy Controls and User-Friendly Features
PicSee prioritizes safety. The app blocks NSFW content, prevents screenshots, and stores all processing locally. Beyond photo sharing, users can comment on shared images, helping spark conversations naturally. The company is also developing features like album management, duplicate removal, integration with Google Photos and iCloud, and even video face detection.
The Challenge of Changing Sharing Habits
Despite its innovative approach, PicSee faces a major hurdle: convincing users to replace established sharing habits. Most users already send photos to close contacts via WhatsApp, iMessage, Instagram, or Snapchat. PicSee’s value proposition lies in automating sharing for a smaller, trusted circle, which may appeal most to close friends, family, or partners.
